“Take and Teach” a sample activity from our myWorld Interactive program for Grade 5. This hands-on activity will engage your students and deepen their understanding of the Civil War.


Quest 9, To Secede or Not to Secede. In this Quest, you students will study important documents from the early United States. Their study of these documents will enable them to participate in a collaborative discussion about how both the Union and the Confederacy justified their actions during the Civil War. This study will also enable them to discuss the compelling question at the end of this inquiry.


Objectives

  • Study the background of the conflict between the North and the South
    prior to the Civil War.
  • Analyze the early documents of the United States.
  • Defend a position supporting or opposing the possibility of secession in
    a civic discussion.
