Free PI Day Activities

Every year Pi Day (March 14th) offers teachers a fun way to engage their students in the joys of mathematics. From memorization competitions to lesson activities on how numbers can relate to shapes (not to mention an opportunity to actually consume some delicious pie :), teachers and students everywhere get a chance to celebrate the delightful irrational number that is π. If you’re planning to celebrate Pi Day in your classroom(s) on March 14th here are a few free K-8 lesson activities for you to explore:

Pi Day Fun Facts & Jokes To Use in Your Classroom:

Did you know? William Jones, a Welsh mathematician, was the first to introduce the symbol π (the Greek letter Pi) to represent the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter.

Did you know? Albert Einstein’s birthday falls on Pi Day, March 14th!

The official Guinness World Record for reciting the most number of decimal places of Pi was achieved by Rajveer Meena at VIT University, Vellore, India on 21 March 2015. He was able to recite π out to 70,000 decimal places!
